Following the regularly scheduled ExCom meeting we will take to the streets to install lawn signs reading “Designed by a Landscape Architect”. We will also distribute the 50 free copies of Landscape Architecture Magazine at area doctor’s offices, salons, barber shops, coffee shops and school libraries.

- April 8: 30,000 Trees in One Year
In celebration of their 30th Anniversary, the Sacramento Tree Foundation is teaming up with Greenwise Joint Venture to plant 30,000 trees across Sacramento’s six-county region. ASLA is heeding their call and encouraging our members to register any tree that you have on plans that will be planted between March 7, 2012 and March 7, 2013. National PARK(ing) Day is on Friday, September 21st, 2012. ASLA EPG is planning an installation this year and we need your help! PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. Join the Sierra Chapter EPG on April 19th, 2012 for a PARK(ing) Day design charrette!
The theme for NLAM is Public Health & Active Living, so bring your ideas to transform one space in Downtown Sacramento into a healthy and active PARK! Drafting supplies and light refreshments and snacks will be provided! FREE Event!

What makes a good place to visit in the urban environment? Where are the best places in our region? Join us for this lively discussion about where it is and where to find it. This is the second of five planned dialogues this year which bring designers and community members together to try to identify ‘the Soul of Sacramento’. This event is run in partnership with the American Institute of Architects, Central Valley Chapter, is FREE, and open to the public.

In celebration of the birthday of our profession’s founder, Frederick Law Olmsted, and National Landscape Architecture Month, California’s State Capitol grounds will host chapter members who will hand out informative pamphlets, sketch site plans and share examples of how our profession plays a vital role in providing safe, attractive environments for public health. - Thursday, April 26: Kimberley Garza Lecture – Designing for Multiscalar Resiliency
The Chapter will host the co-founder of ATLAS Lab for a presentation on landscape ecology and infrastructure. The presentation will explore the recent work of ATLAS, including the winning design proposal for the Catalyst: Sacramento Capital Mall Competition ‘Capitol Canopy’ as a means of establishing a genre of work that promotes resiliency in the relationship between urbanization, infrastructure and the environment. The presentation will touch upon methods of design grounded in cartography and historical studies to articulate the analysis and design of complex and dynamic ecological systems. The event is FREE!
