Placemaking is the process of creating quality places and environments where people live, work, play, shop, learn, and visit. Placemaking can be a value-added process which turns a service into an amenity and a place into an attraction. Urban placemaking is not only a community development tool but also an economic development tool. The City of West Sacramento has performed innovative comprehensive planning work through master plans and specific plans which incorporate principles of urban planning. These plans have led to the completion of a number of catalyst projects including The Barn, the Habitat, and the River Walk. These catalyst projects in conjunction with the specific plans draw attention to West Sacramento and invite greater economic development opportunities which will continue to result in a more vibrant waterfront. Join us and our panel of experts to discuss how urban placemaking and economic development go hand in hand.
